Affects of Rose Hip Oil in Skin

Rose hip seed oil has been successful in treating skin ailments caused by sun exposure such as photoaging (dermatoheliosis). These problems are more likely to affect people who live in warm climates. UV exposure can create several changes in skin that can sometimes be severe. Dermatoheliosis can range in severity from small wrinkles to active keratosis as well as leads to problems in melanin distribution.

To test the healing benefits of rose hip seed oil, volunteers were selected among people who usually spend three months of summer in seaside resorts or who go to the beach every day. A sample of twenty women, ages 25 to 35 were tested, controlled and analyzed during the summer of 1988. The most commonly recorded effects of sun exposure were surface wrinkles, age spots, and tanned skin. All applied rose hip oil to the face during four months (May to August, Autumn 1988).

Observations were recorded every eight days to analyze the effects of the treatment. Changes in skin appeared as early as week three. Results show that spots began to fade, wrinkles started to reduce in appearance, and by the end of the fourth month, almost all sun induced blemishes had gone away. Their skin had a smooth and fresh appearance without noticeable spots.

Treatment of Surgical Scars

This study was done with scars of similar types. The sample group consisted of ten women between 45 and 68 years old who had undergone unilateral or bilateral mastectomy.

Application of rose hip oil began the day the surgical stitches were removed. The oil was softly massaged into the skin after a gentle wash with tepid water and soap. Observations after three months of twice a day use noted a reduction in the visibility of the scars, and improvement in the elasticity of the skin and a significantly smooth outcome as well as an improvement in color.

These observations were carried out until four months after the operations where the treatment specialists indicated a significant improvement in the patients’ skin conditions after this skin care routine. This treatment greatly facilitated prosthetic implantation and plastic surgery as compared to patients who had not undergone rose hip oil treatment.

These studies as well as accounts from indigenous people have convinced many of the natural skin treatment benefits of rose hip oil. Rose hips oil is not only successful in diminishing surgical scars, but is an effective treatment for acne scars and other skin blemishes.
