The Importance of Comic Book Storage
If you have a valuable comic book collection, there are several ways to store it. There are many different kinds of comic book storage options.
The thing to keep in mind, first and foremost, is to store them in containers that were made specifically for this purpose. You want to preserve the paper. That means anything you use for cardboard or paper storage (ie, comic books) should be lignin-free and acid-free. If you use plastic storage, it should be PVC-free.
You should also store your collection away from direct light, preferably in a climate controlled environment. Please don’t put your comic books up in your attic or shed!
Now, there are many kinds of storage containers available for comic books. Most comic books will be perfectly find slipped inside individual plastic sleeves or acid-free resealable bags. If your comic is especially valuable and special, though, you might want to consider a plastic box made especially for comic book storage. If you’re going to seal these bags or sleeves with an adhesive, make certain that the adhesive never touches the comics themselves.
Where do you find plastic comic book boxes? Usually in shops that sell collectibles, or shops that sell storage and organizational containers. As an alternative, you should be able to find Mylar comic book sleeves that have special cardboard backing. This makes the container a little more sturdy, better protecting your book.
Now then, assuming you’ve stored all your most valuable books in individual containers, it’s time to consider how to store the rest of your collection. You’ll find that there are lots of different kinds of boxes that you can buy in comic book stores or online. They come in two different sizes. The short ones will holds about 100 books, while the longer ones can hold up to 300.
When you store your comic books, you may want to give some thought as to how you want to organize them. The most common way to organize comic books is by title, then in chronological order based on the date of publication. Whether you want to read them in the future or sell them, you’ll be able to quickly and easily find any comic book you want in an organized comic book storage system.
