Quick And Easy Help For Sleep Apnea
There are many self help sleep apnea treatments you can try if you believe you are suffering from sleep apnea. Some of the symptoms of sleep apnea include: being tired all the time; constant headaches; a dry or scratchy throat; waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air. Sometimes though, you will not fully wake up when your breathing becomes labored, so it may be hard to self diagnosis sleep apnea.
However, it seems logical that if you’re very tired during the day, or find yourself needing frequent naps (or even falling asleep at your desk for a few minutes), you might want to consider a few self help sleep apnea treatments and/or see a doctor for further diagnosis.
Men have a much higher risk than women for developing this potentially serious problem, and people who smoke or are overweight are also more likely to have sleep apnea. If you do have sleep apnea, try a very simple way to help yourself. Quit smoking. It’s easy to say, I know, but if you can’t quit easily, at least try to decrease your smoking in the evening and see if you feel better.
People who are overweight should try to find a healthy way to lose weight. This will help improve sleep patterns, and also improve their overall health.
One other effective sleep apnea treatment is avoiding sleeping on your back. Fatty tissue in your throat or having larger tonsils will relax and block your airway while you are sleeping, which can make you stop breathing. Some people also find special pillows that elevate their heads helpful.
If this doesn’t work, schedule a doctor visit. Sometimes, CPAP machines, also called continuous positive airway pressure machines, are the best sleep apnea treatment for people who have obstructive sleep apnea. These machines gently deliver air into your airway while you are sleeping, and help you continue breathing. They also prevent throat blockages that cause many people to wake during the night gasping for breath.
